5G DEVELOPMENT
Since its development in South Korea in 2019, $400 billion has been invested globally in 5G-related capital expenditure, according to Dell’Oro Group. That adds up to more than 20 million cell radios (ranging from huge installations to tiny radios). 5G’s pace outstrips that of any earlier mobile technology.
Preliminary findings suggest that 5G already covers around 45% of the global population, according to Ericsson’s Mobility Report. Ericsson forecasts that 5G will become the dominant mobile access technology by subscription before the end of 2029. Currently, though, it is only deployed in around 25% of all sites globally. That is changing rapidly as providers fight for market share by covering more territories with 5G capabilities.
