Best of CrowdStrike Fal.Con 2024: Tackling Adversity with a Wave of Cybersecurity Innovation
CrowdStrike faced a crisis on July 19 when an update went horribly wrong. The company faced a firestorm of criticism. Doubts were raised about its survival. Rather than going into PR spin mode, George Kurtz, CEO and founder of CrowdStrike, spent weeks addressing the problem while doing interviews to explain the incident, why it happened, and what was being done so it never happened again. A policy of transparency worked. The company appears to have weathered the storm.
Two months on, the company’s annual conference, Fal.Con 2024, took place in Las Vegas from September 16-19. CrowdStrike enjoyed its highest-ever attendance of more than 6,000 security and IT professionals representing 2,300 organizations as well as 100 IT partners. Most notably, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella even shared the stage during Kurtz’s keynote at the conference as a show of strength and an affirmation of a continuing partnership.
Drew Robb, writing for TechRepublic Premium, discusses CrowdStrike’s creative plans, how cyberattacks are getting faster and more damaging, and other vital matters.

The Fal.Con show drew attention to the CrowdStrike 2024 Global Threat Report. This annual survey painted a dark picture of the evolving threat landscape.
The report details a series of worrying statistics:
34 new major adversaries have been discovered, raising the total to 232.
Cloud environment intrusions increased by 75% compared to the previous year.
There was a 76% increase in victims named on dark websites.
“The speed and ferocity of cyberattacks continue to accelerate as adversaries compress the time between initial entry, lateral movement and breach,” said Kurtz. “The rise of generative AI has the potential to lower the barrier of entry for low-skilled adversaries, making it easier to launch attacks that are more sophisticated and state of the art.”
