Meal and Break Periods Policy
Employees deserve some time to rest and refuel during their work hours, and that’s why many organizations provide meal and break periods. Having a Meal and Break Periods Policy ensures employees are provided with adequate meal and break periods in accordance with applicable labor laws and establishes guidelines for the provision and duration of these breaks.
This policy, written by Franklin Okeke for TechRepublic Premium, sheds light on the types of breaks at work and provides details on their duration, scheduling, location, and supervision.

REST BREAKS
Duration
Employees are entitled to a 10-20 minute paid rest break for every 4-6 hours worked. The duration and frequency may vary based on the employee’s work schedule. These paid rest breaks are intended to provide employees with short intervals to relax and recharge in order to improve productivity.
Scheduling
Rest breaks should be taken in a manner that does not disrupt the workflow. Employees should work with their supervisors to determine the timing of their rest breaks. Supervisors will ensure rest breaks do not affect the flow of work and can be taken at a time that is convenient for both the employee and the organization.
