There are two main types of VDI: persistent and non-persistent. The main difference between the two of them is how much VDI users can modify and customize the system.

Persistent VDI provides each user with their own dedicated virtual desktop. It’s called persistent because the VDI persists between sessions. This means users can save their changes to the desktop, install applications, and customize settings and files. What can and cannot be changed in the system will be defined by the administrators and the IT team.

Persistent VDI is similar to using a traditional physical desktop but with the added benefits of central management and security. Persistent VDI is an ideal option for organizations that work, for example, in software development or employ workers who need to make changes to the system and save or modify files and apps.
